We Welcome Summer

27 Nov

Images of snow and bleak midwinters at Christmas time are foreign to most Australians - we tend to swelter in the languid heat and humidity instead!

We Welcome Summer is a choral CD that celebrates an Australian Christmas.  Featuring all the choirs of St John's Cathedral, the CD includes arrangements of well-known carols for choir, organ and brass, through to music of Australian composers.

For only $20, the CD will make a fine gift for your friends and family, and of course for yourselves!  The CD is available from the Cathedral Shop, or by phoning 07 3835 2281.

Brisbane Chamber Choir ends 2011 in a somewhat romantic mood!

Please join us for a journey through beautiful choral repertoire exploring romantic places and folk, romantic love and loss, and the power of music.  The concert will be performed in “reverse mode” from the West Door of St John’s Cathedral – arguably Brisbane’s best acoustic for choral music, and perfect for the lush Romantic music on the programme!

The attached flyer is suitable to be emailed and we would greatly appreciate if you would please forward the flyer to all your family and friends whom you know love choral music too.

The concert programme includes -

- Calme des Nuits – Saint-Säens
- Abendlied – Rheinberger
- Australian Up-Country Song – Grainger
- Le pont Mirabeau – Daunais
- Zigeunerlieder (excerpts) – Brahms
- My spirit sang all day – Finzi
- Lay a garland – Pearsall
- Rest – Vaughan Williams
- Music, when soft voices die – Parry

Brisbane Contemporary Church Music Festival

15 Aug

The Brisbane Chamber Choir are delighted to be involved in the Brisbane Contemporary Church Music Festival, in its capacity as the St John’s Cathedral Chamber Choir.

This five day festival explores the voices of contemporary composers, and the Chamber Choir will be taking part in two very special events, including a premiere concert.

(Music for choir and cello)

A concert performed by the Cathedral Chamber Choir.

6.00pm Saturday 20 August

Will Todd – Angel Song II

Paul Dean – Lux aeterna

Vytautas Miškinis - Dum medium silentium

Paul Stanhope – Lux aeterna

Tarik O’Regan – Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (with cello)

INTERVAL

Samuel Barber – Agnus Dei

Michael Knopf – Be silent and know

Pablo Casals – O vos omnes

Andrew Schultz – Magnificat

Eleanor Daley – Ave maris stella

This concert will be performed from the West Door of the Cathedral - in "reverse mode".  If you've not been to a concert performed in this manner, then you'll be in for a real treat!  The performance is much more intimate in the vast space that is St John's Cathedral, plus the glorious acoustics at the West Door enhances the Choir's sound - which is perfect for the concert programme!

The concert features two premieres of works by Brisbane Composers –  Paul Dean (Choir Patron) and Michael Knopf – and we are delighted that they will be attending the concert.  Other highlights include works by Australian composers Paul Stanhope and Andrew Schultz, and Will Todd’s Among Angels, written for choir and two harps, which is very much in the style of his work Angel Song II, the title track of our last CD.

Tickets available at the door

Admission $20, Concession $15

We look forward to seeing you at these performances, and others during the Brisbane Contemporary Church Music Festival.
