This Sunday, Brisbane Chamber Choir performs with our very good friends, The Badinerie Players. This will be our third collaboration, and will be just as engaging and enjoyable as our previous concerts together!
This year's concert, entitled Baroque to the Modern World, is in many ways, a concert in two halves.
The concert opens with The Badinerie Players, on period instruments, performing 3 Fantasies and a Chaconne, by Henry Purcell. The main work featured in the concert will be excerpts from La Pellegrina. This lavish spectacle was first performed in Florence in 1589 for the marriage of Ferdinando de' Medici Grand Duke of Tuscany to Christine de Lorraine, and was composed primarily by court composers Christofano Malvezzi and Luca Marenzio. Four intermedi depicting ancient mythology will be performed, each including a sinfonia and several madrigals.
For the second half, the music of the modern world is performed on modern instruments. Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, Pater Noster by Peteris Vasks and the glorious sounds of the turn of the century music of Vienna with two songs by Zemlinksy, Geheimnis and Frülingsglaube.
Please join us for an afternoon of simply delightful music that you're sure to enjoy!
