Peter Garrett

Peter is a Civil Engineer having graduated from the University of Queensland in 1986 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil). He grew up on the Gold Coast and since graduation has worked for an engineering consultancy based there where his work involves the project management and engineering design of residential subdivisions, waterfront development and civil infrastructure, including the occasional golf course.

Peter only really got serious about singing in 1994 when, encouraged by a member of his local choir at St Peter’s Anglican Church Southport, he began studying voice with Mrs Patricia White where he has since completed his AMEB eighth grade practical in singing.

Looking for greater singing challenges, he happened to attend an RSCM Summer School held in Brisbane in 2002 where he met Graeme Morton. He subsequently joined The Lucian Singers, the Choir of Christ Church St Lucia and then the Brisbane Chamber Choir in mid 2002. Peter well remembers his first performance with the Chamber Choir in a concert within the wonderful acoustic of St John's Cathedral where he was sight reading in French for the first time. Thankfully, he has grown to love singing in French!

Peter has also been known to perform in the odd musical and was last seen in the 2007 production of Sweeney Todd at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. He has also recently rediscovered overseas travel, spending two months sampling the sights and sounds travelling through Europe and catching up with mates in London. He hopes it won’t be another 15 years before he returns again the next time.

Sam Mitchell

Sam graduated from St Peters Lutheran College in 2008 after years of trying to fit school work around his hectic music schedule. He has commenced a Bachelor of Music and Arts degree at the University of Queensland studying piano with Liam Viney. Sam eventually wishes to do further post-graduate study, with a particular focus on choral music.
Sam developed his love for choral singing through his time in the St Peters Chorale under the direction of Graeme Morton, touring with the choir to Europe in 2007. He now plays with some of the School’s ensembles. Over the years, he has sung with the Lucian Singers, The Menard Ensemble, the RSCM’s Vocal Academy Ensemble and the UQ Chorale, to name a few.
Apart from spending the half day at the keys playing through the Bach Preludes and Fugues, bashing through Prokofiev or indulging in some Jazz improv, Sam likes to bury himself in a good book with good coffee while listening to anything played by Martha Argerich or Bill Evans. He also has the unhealthy habit of providing a Simpson’s quote for every moment. This is Sam’s first year singing in the Chamber Choir, although his first performance with the Choir was playing piano in Benjamin Britten’s ‘St Nicolas Cantata’ in 2008.
