Tricia Bartkowiak
|
Tricia has a degree in Education and has taught Early Childhood for many years. However time spent with music would rival her paid work and is her real passion. She grew up in the choir at Holy Trinity Church Fortitude Valley and has also sung in QUMS, Vox Nova and as an occasional extension singer for Jones and Co for larger works such as Tallis’ 40 part motet. She was a foundation member of Canticum and toured with them to Japan in 2005.
A love of Early Music led her to The Deller Academy of Early Music in France, as well as to workshops in Gregorian chant under Mary Berry and an enduring intrigue in the music and life of Hildegard of Bingen. On the other hand, contempory and experimental music is just as intriguing so that choral highlights include James McMillan’s ‘Seven Last Words from the Cross’ and Montiverdi’s Vespers sung in an old limestone quarry in France.
Other current musical experiences include supporting her husband’s choir at St Brigid’s church Red Hill, driving her children to their music lessons and attending all their concerts and listening to birdsong on bush walks!

Jane Deighton
|
Jane moved to Brisbane from Wellington, NZ, in September 2007 with her husband and 2 young children. She lives in the Gap. The family are very much enjoying finding their way around this beautiful city and visiting its many playgrounds and walking tracks (although the former usually wins out over the latter!)
Choral singing started for her at the age of 8 in St Mary’s church choir in New Plymouth. Jane sang in choirs and also played piano and flute throughout her school years and joined the Wellington Cathedral Choir of St Paul at the age of 16. The Cathedral Choir has toured to Australia and Europe and most recently undertook a tour of England and Paris in July 2008 (for which Jane re-joined the ranks) singing at St George’s Chapel, Windsor; Westminster Abbey; Southwark Cathedral; Westminster Cathedral; St John’s College, Cambridge; Selwyn College, Cambridge; Ely Cathedral; Lichfield Cathedral; St Eustache, Paris; and Notre Dame, Paris.
Jane joined the NZ National Youth Choir in 1992 and was part of a 6 week tour to Canada and North America in 1993. She also sang in the Tudor Consort in Wellington for about 12 years performing music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. As well as singing in the Chamber Choir, Jane sings in the St John’s Cathedral Choir.
In her spare time, Jane enjoys baking and cooking and watching TV programmes like House, Outrageous Fortune, Wire in the Blood (any good British drama really!) and channel surfing between the Food Channel, History Channel and National Geographic. Jane is also hoping to return to playing the flute and piano when she finds the time - maybe in another couple of years?!

Bronwyn Mitchell
|
Bronwyn grew up in Melbourne but moved to Brisbane in 2009. Her introduction to choral singing was at the age of five, performing 'The Rainbow Connection' from the front row of her primary school choir. This prompted a love of singing and ensemble work, and since the age of nine she has continuously been a member of at least one choir. She sang with the Young Voices of Melbourne, including on their 1996 European Tour of Germany, England and Hungary. She was a foundation member of Concordis, who were national finalists in the ABC Choir of the Year competition in 2006. At the end of 2003 she discovered the National Youth Choir of Australia, and returned year after year until she begrudgingly gave in to their definition of 'youth'. She sang in seven consecutive seasons of NYCA, and is one of only two people (she believes) who has toured every state and territory of Australia with the choir.
Travelling and choral singing have always gone hand in hand for Bronwyn. In 2007-08 she travelled overseas for ten months, including time spent living and working in Vancouver and Cork. In Vancouver she sang for three months with the award-winning Choir of Christ Church Cathedral directed by Rupert Lang. In Cork she sang with Cór Cois Abhann ('choir by the river') and the Clerks Collegiate Singers of Youghal, both directed by Ian Sexton. Such is her devotion to all things choral that she timed her visit to Ireland to coincide with the Cork International Choral Festival, an established festival which attracts some of the best groups from across Europe. She spent the festival volunteering as a 'failteoir' (welcomer) for a visiting choir from Stockholm and counts these amazing five days in May 2008 as one of the highlights of her trip.
Upon moving to Brisbane, Bronwyn wasted no time in finding a choir to sing with, and had a rehearsal to attend before she found either a job or a place to live. She currently works as an event coordinator for a youth development organisation and lives in Red Hill. She sings with both Brisbane Chamber Choir and Fusion, a small seasonal ensemble of 12-15 voices which aims to engage audiences with lesser-known early and contemporary repertoire.
When not singing, she can usually be found ballroom dancing, reading on her balcony, learning Spanish, or in her kitchen baking something decadent while listening at full volume to whatever repertoire BCC or Fusion are currently rehearsing.
She still knows every word to 'The Rainbow Connection'.

Lea Withnall
|
Lea Withnall is a primary school music specialist for Education Queensland. Having completed a dual Bachelor of Music/Education degree from the University of Queensland, she is currently teaching at Capalaba State College and Ashgrove State School.
Her love of choral singing was originally encouraged by Julie Christiansen at the Gap State School and then by Graeme Morton at St Peters Lutheran College, where she sang in the Chorale for four years, touring with the group to Europe in 2004. She has also sung with Brisbane Birralee Voices (1997- 2004) and the Young Conservatorium Singers (1999-2000). As well as Chamber Choir, Lea currently sings with the Lucian Singers (2003-2010) and the Menard Ensemble (2008 -2010).
In the few hours that she isn't at school or singing in choirs, Lea enjoys parks, reading, drinking tea with friends, and finding new TV shows to watch obsessively.
