Samantha Cook

Samantha is a stay at home mum to Darcy (born March 07) and Reuben (born August 09) and teaches singing and piano from her home in Mount Gravatt East.   She is on leave from Education Queensland, and she most recently taught music and conducted choirs at Coorparoo Secondary College.

Samantha has been singing in choirs since age eight, when she was a member of the Rockhampton Musical Union Junior Choir.   Her love of music led her to study singing with the late Margaret Nickson and she graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Queensland in 1998.

After teaching in Rockhampton for a couple of years, Samantha moved to London where she taught at the Frances Bardsley School for Girls.   She joined the London Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Neville Creed, and sang as a soloist and member of the semi-chorus in venues around London, one of her favourites being the Proms Concert series at the Royal Albert Hall.  An all-expenses-paid tour to the Canary Islands was also a major highlight! In 2004, Samantha moved to Brisbane with her husband, Terry, and was a member of The Queensland Choir, before joining the Brisbane Chamber Choir later that year.

Samantha now sings along to the Wiggles and tries to remember words to nursery rhymes.  She is also the conductor of a handbell ensemble, Brisbane Bells, and has been secretary of the Brisbane Chamber Choir since 2008.

Tabatha McFadyen

Tabatha McFadyen is currently in her second year of study of a Bachelor of Music (Advanced Performance) at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, majoring in Classical Voice. As well as being involved in various Conservatorium operatic productions, she is a strong advocate of new music, and has been involved with the emerging groups Ensemble Fabrique and the Sounding Out Composer's Collective, and has premiered and workshopped several new works.

Tabatha's deep love for music manifests in many ways: in her own personal studies, as a choral singer in BCC since 2009, as a tutor for the Choristers of St John's Cathedral, a pianist and violinist and as a teacher. Her other interests include varying forms of literature, contemporary dance, linguistics, cooking and theatre.

Ana Stevenson

Ana has just moved to Brisbane to undertake her honours degree in history at the University of Queensland, having completed her Bachelor of Communication at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.  She has been singing in choirs since she was 5, being the youngest member of the Unisong Community Choir (at CQUniversity) for many years.  Ana developed a love of choral singing through Gondwana Voices (2000-2001), the National Youth Choir of Australia (2002) and the Festival of Voices (Tasmania, 2005).  She also participated in state music programs throughout high school, including the Queensland Conservatorium State Honours Ensemble Program (2003-2005) and MOST: the Scholarship Program for Musically Outstanding Students (2005).

Ana has developed an eclectic musical taste over the years through a range of ensembles: the Rockhampton Youth Orchestra, Rockhampton Chamber Music Society, Berserker Bamboo Band, Dolce String Quartet, Quay Street Jazz, Capricornia Silver Band, Currawong Bush Band, Capricornia Macedonian Gypsy Band and numerous pit orchestras.  Though she has been primarily an instrumentalist recently – playing cello, double bass, percussion, recorder and piano – since moving to Brisbane, she has taken up singing (attracted by its portability!) as her instrument of choice.

When Ana isn’t studying or playing music, she enjoys reading, watching movies and being with family and friends.  She is also a member of the St John’s College Choral Scholars and is thoroughly enjoying singing in Brisbane.

Elspeth Sutherland

Elspeth’s interest in part-singing first appeared in her childhood church when, bored with singing the same hymn melody verse after verse, she made up her own harmony lines to alleviate the boredom!  She later studied voice and ethnomusicology  at the University of Queensland, where she graduated with a BMus (Hons in Musicology) and  BA (Languages).  She then continued in postgraduate studies in vocal pedagogy and a Masters in Choral Conducting at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

Interested in the wealth of styles that the world of music has to offer, Elspeth spent several years playing in a Balinese Gamelan, spent some time singing with a Gregorian chant group, learned the art of camponology, and has been asked to conduct a Swiss yodelling choir not once, but twice (she was sad to decline on both occasions).  She currently performs with the Scottish folk-rock group Celtic Fyre.

Elspeth has a love of musical theatre which was inspired by working in pro-am theatre in London and has appeared on many local stages, including a stint in the Opera Queensland Chorus. Most recently she appeared as the Reverend Mother in the Brisbane Arts Theatre production of Nunsense.

While Elspeth has spent many hours conducting pit orchestras, working as a musical director for theatre and choral groups such as the Pro Musica Singers, QUMS and Rondellus, loves being on the other side of the podium when she sings with Brisbane Chamber Choir.  In her day job, Elspeth teaches voice and conducts choirs at Stuartholme School and also works as an editor on the religious newspaper Focus.  She is married to Evan, another singer, and relishes being a wicked stepmother to her two gorgeous step-kids.

Cathy Green

Cathy has been singing with Brisbane Chamber Choir since her arrival in Brisbane at the start of 2010, and recently joined the Lucian Singers of Christ Church, St Lucia. She is a keen member of NYCA (National Youth Choir of Australia) since 2007 and has previously sung with Newman College Chapel Choir, Melbourne Chamber Choir and Concordis Chamber Choir in her home city of Melbourne where she studied music at the Victorian College of the Arts, specialising in improvisation. Since joining Newman's choir she has developed a passion for earlier music.
When not engaged in musical activities, Cathy is a student, currently working on an Honours dissertation in Linguistics at the University of Queensland. She loves language, and trying to learn many languages at once (German, Japanese, Indonesian, Latin and Spanish). She is also interested in cultures, theatre, film, food and not least travel and hiking.

Cathy is honoured to be singing with Brisbane Chamber Choir and developing her vocal skills as well as musicianship, and dreams of singing in a professional choir one day.

Alicia Ninnes

For the past two and a half years, Alicia has been a stay-at-home mother to Keeley (born January 2008) and Brianna (born May 2009).  She has a BMus/BEd (Sec) and is currently on leave from Education Queensland, for which she most recently taught music at Urangan State High School in Hervey Bay.  While on leave, she helps to pay the bills by teaching violin, organ, piano and theory in the evenings and picks up occasional paid work performing at weddings.  From 2007 to the end of 2009, Alicia and her Art-teacher husband, Craig, lived in the small mining town of Collinsville (one hour West of Bowen), where she taught guitar to suit the people’s taste for country and folk music.

Alicia has a strong passion for study and anything musical. Besides from teaching at home, she is a member of the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, the Brisbane Chamber Choir and the Music Ministry at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Petrie.  Alicia is also currently studying for her AMus on Violin, Grade 8 Classical Voice (Soprano) and Grade 7 Theory of Music.  She even takes part in professional development courses over her holidays (much to her husband’s dismay).  Recently, Alicia completed the first year of Secondary Teaching in the Kodaly Summer School (Jan 2010), the Third Level of Early Childhood Teaching in the Australian Kodaly Certificate and the Music Theatre course at USQ’s McGregor Summer School (Jan 2009).  She is also undergoing teacher training in the Colourstrings Method of strings teaching.

Although Alicia wants to stay at home until her children begin school, life in the city is expensive.  She has recently returned to work part-time as a secondary music teacher at the heavily Kodaly-based private school, Clayfield College.  It is a very demanding position and Alicia is missing being at home with her girls, however she is enjoying her new contract immensely.

Jenny Carrington

Jenny graduated from her Honours degree in Ancient History in 2009, studying Archaic Greek religious identity and Egyptian-Greek relations. Her goal is to continue studying in the same area in a few years or so.
In the meantime, she is enjoying working as a climb leader at Story Bridge Adventure Climb and also taking tours at the RD Milns Antiquities Museum at UQ.
Over the years, Jenny has kept herself very busy with various choral pursuits. She was a member of Imogen Children's Chorale, and sang at Christ Church St Lucia in the Treble Choir before moving on to The Lucian Singers. At school, she sang with St Peters Chorale. She also found that a great way to make new friends studying overseas in Dublin was to join the university choir. Jenny joined Brisbane Chamber Choir this year and also currently sings with The Menard Ensemble.

Jonathan Eastgate

Jonathan Eastgate is Operations Manager at XO Interior Systems. He has a background in Internet application development and now specializes in developing software and systems to automate manufacturing processes. Jonathan is a regular guest speaker on the principles and application of Computer Integrated Manufacturing for groups such as QMI, the QLD Government and other related industry groups.

Jonathan enjoys an eclectic mix of music from just about every genre and has been singing in choirs from an early age. He was a member of the Conservatorium Music School and St Peters Chorale under Graeme Morton. Jonathan also studied voice under (the late) Henry Howell.

Jonathan has many varied hobbies - none of which get the attention they deserve.

Peter Clark

At present, Peter is a composition student at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. His musical interests and explorations span from Lachenmann to Grisey, from Scelsi to Berio, through to Ligeti and Murail. He is most interested in the emancipation of sound from its dense historical contextualisation.
Other than composing and singing, Peter spends his time at the piano, or reading French and German philosophy and poetry.
Peter hopes to continue further studies overseas in the coming years. He has been a member of the Brisbane Chamber Choir since 2007.

Christopher Gann

Originally from the UK, Chris currently teaches grade 5 at Ironside State School. After graduating in music from the University of Exeter in 2002, Chris completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of Cambridge in 2004.

Although involved in singing from an early age, Chris’ interest in choral music was ignited after gaining a music scholarship to attend Wells Cathedral School. During his time at Wells, Chris became a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Chris has propped up the back row of many a choir, including Truro Cathedral Choir, Exeter Cathedral Choir, the Serlo Consort and the Adelaide Chamber Singers. Chris has been a member of Brisbane Chamber Choir since 2007.

Away from all things pedagogical, Chris enjoys scuba diving and strong coffee.
