Graeme Morton

Graeme Morton currently holds the position of Choral Conducting Fellow at the University of Queensland and is the Director of Choral Music at St John's Anglican Cathedral, Brisbane. He was formerly the Director of Music at St Peters Lutheran College, where he founded the St Peters Chorale which he conducted for more than twenty-five years. Together with Stephen Leek, he also co-founded and was the first director of The Australian Voices.

Graeme is particularly keen to find interesting new choral works to bring to his singers and audiences. To this end he has commissioned and recorded many of the pieces that have become Australian choral classics, and his support for an Australian choral voice remains unabated. He has toured and lectured overseas on numerous occasions.

Graeme holds a Master of Music (Organ) from the University of Queensland. As a Churchill Fellow he observed choral leadership in the United States and in Canada. He is the recipient of a Prime Minister’s Medal, and in 2011 was the recipient of the Lord Mayor’s Australia Day Cultural Award. As a composer he is published by Augsburg Fortress, Kjos Music, and Morton Music.

Graeme also hosts The Choir Room on 4MBS FM, which is broadcast weekly at 10pm Tuesdays and 12:30pm Sundays. He has a reputation for combining interesting and varied repertoire with his knowledge and wide experience of choral music. His own extensive library of choral recordings forms the basis of this half-hour programme.
