Matthew Crossley

Matthew Crossley currently studies at Griffith University, working on a PhD on Hydrogen Storage, motivated by the promise of alternative energy sources and transport methods. While involving a many hours of experimental work in Australia, his studies, funded by the CSIRO
Energy Transformed Flagship, have taken him abroad and will continue to do so, for conferences and the use of major research facilities.

Musically, Matthew is an enthusiastic chorister, singing in both the Lucian Singers and BCC under Graeme Morton, and a member of a small barbershop-esque group. Outside of choir rehearsals and concerts, he keeps himself sane with poker and pool nights with his mates.

Anton Kalisch-Smith

Anton’s musical education was nurtured in his early years at St Peters Lutheran College, and continued through his senior schooling up to his involvement in year 12 Music Extension under Graeme Morton, as well as his involvement in many musical ensembles, both within St Peters and in the Queensland Conservatorium ‘Young Conservatorium’ program. On gaining entrance to the Queensland Conservatorium, Anton is currently studying as part of the first year of a Bachelor of Music, majoring in performance on euphonium.

Anton’s current musical interests are focussed on broadening his musical knowledge in all areas of classical music, especially those associated with the English brass band movement, considering his recent involvement in the Brisbane brass band scene. Anton has interests in all areas of classical music, especially in the areas of experimental and avant-garde music of the twentieth century, the Baroque and the Renaissance.

While being a member of the Brisbane Chamber Choir, Anton also maintains roles in several ensembles at the Conservatorium, as well as a member of the St Johns Cathedral Choir and the South Brisbane Federal Band. He is keeping his future career options as a musician quite open, considering possible careers in brass or choral fields, as well as those involving conducting and composing.

Zach Kelly

Zach is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, majoring in voice. Following completion of this degree he wishes to study conducting.

Zach’s interest in music was sparked by his participation in the St Peters Chorale, directed by Graeme Morton. He developed a passion for both choral music and singing which eventually led to his attendance of the Queensland Conservatorium once he had finished school. Zach also sings with the St Johns Cathedral Choir.

Zach is also a keen rugby player and an avid reader of poetry.

Mark Young

Mark is currently a Staff Specialist in Anaesthesia at the Mater Hospitals, South Brisbane, having completed his speciality training in Anaesthesia at the end of 2007.  In 1999 he graduated from The University of Queensland with Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery.

Perhaps Mark was a cathedral chorister in a previous life, as his favourite music is the rich choral polyphony of the Renaissance, along with any organ music that is loud and played at blistering speed.  Blessed (or cursed) with perfect pitch, he also has this incessant need to harmonise nursery rhymes and to maintain intonation standards in his children’s preschool classes.

Mark met his wife Anna during high school when they were both in the Queensland Conservatorium Music School Choir, conducted by the late Dr John Nickson. They both went on to become foundation members of The Australian Voices, and have also sung with The Lucian Singers.  Mark first joined the Brisbane Chamber Choir in 2002 and is the Choir’s current President.

Jason Schoutrop

Outside of Choir rehearsals, Jason spends his time working as an Anaesthetist. After many years of training he completed his studies in 2008 and is currently working as a Staff Specialist both at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital.   He thinks he has perfected his technique of putting people to sleep. In a previous life, though, Jason also completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) at the University of Queensland.

Outside of work and choir Jason does try to travel to far and exotic places and also tries to get onto his rollerblades when he can. Any spare time Jason has is taken up with 2 precocious beagles named Charlie and Teesha who run the household.

Jason really started serious choral singing after high school when he joined Graeme Morton's ensemble Cantus. From there he was a foundation member of The Australian Voices in 1994 and has sung with other groups over the next 10 years. During that time he was also fortunate to be involved in numerous overseas choral tours. He Joined Brisbane Chamber Choir in 2000 and is also the current Librarian and committee member.
