Sacred Masterworks with Richard Marlow

Brisbane Chamber Choir kickstarted 2011 in style!

Dr Richard Marlow, internationally acclaimed choral conductor and former Director of Music at Trinity College, Cambridge, joined us in Brisbane for a week of workshops. This amazing experience culminated in a concert conducted by Dr Marlow on Saturday March 19, 2011.

Works performed included motets by JS and JL Bach, Howell's Requiem and Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing, and Victoria's Missa O Magnum Mysterium, as well as short works by Marlow, Myskinis and O'Regan.

Thanks to all who supported us! We hoped you enjoyed the concert!

Baroque to the Modern World

The Badinerie Players, professional musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra who specialise playing on period instruments and the Brisbane Chamber Choir, directed by Graeme Morton, joined forces once again to present "Baroque to the Modern World."

Fantasias of Purcell began the concert followed by the splendour of La Pellegrina, excerpts from the lavish spectacle first performed in Florence in 1589 for the marriage of Ferdinando de' Medici Grand Duke of Tuscany to Christine de Lorraine. This was composed primarily by court composers Christofano Malvezzi and Luca Marenzio.

The music of the modern world was performed on modern instruments. Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, Pater Noster by Peteris Vasks and the glorious sounds of the turn of the century music of Vienna with two songs by A. Zemlinksy, Geheimnis and Frülingsglaube.

There is sweet music here....

Brisbane Chamber Choir ended 2011 in a somewhat romantic mood, where we led a journey through beautiful choral repertoire exploring romantic places and folk, romantic love and loss, and the power of music.

The concert programme included -

- Calme des Nuits – Saint-Säens
- Abendlied – Rheinberger
- Australian Up-Country Song – Grainger
- Zigeunerlieder (excerpts) – Brahms
- My spirit sang all day – Finzi
- Lay a garland – Pearsall
- Music, when soft voices die – Parry
