The Brisbane Chamber Choir is one of this country's exciting choral ensembles and presents a series of concerts in their home city of Brisbane, Australia. The Choir is also the resident Cathedral Chamber Choir of St John's Anglican Cathedral, Brisbane, and sings in a number services each year, including a Good Friday reflection concert. Established since 1997The Brisbane Chamber Choir is committed to performing repertoire that challenges the musicians and surprises the public. Since the choir's establishment in November 1997 it has performed widely recognized choral music greats from all periods and styles including Handel's Messiah, Bach's St John Passion, Liszt’s Via Crucis, Brahms' A German Requiem in its original form scored for 2 pianos, Purcell’s Dido and Aenaes, and other major works. Premiere PerformancesIn addition the choir has performed innovative music such as Busto's Requiem for choir and clarinet, Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, Goodall's In Memoriam Anne Frank, Britten's The World of the Spirit, Carter's Missa Sancti Pauli and Argento's A Toccata of Galuppi - all Australian premiere performances. CollaborationThe choir regularly collaborates with leading instrumentalists and ensembles. These include organists Rupert Jeffcoat, Christopher Cook and Eduarda van Klinken, cellist Gwyn Roberts, and ensembles such as Camerata of St John’s, The Schola of St Stephen’s Cathedral, the Badinerie Players and The Queensland Orchestra String Quartet. ToursThe choir has also included tours to Melbourne (2006) where the choir joined with the choir of Trinity College to perform the Durufle Requiem, and performed in St Paul’s Cathedral, and Sydney (2007) with performances at St Mark’s, Granville and Pitt Street Uniting Church. ComposersAustralian composers figure prominently in the repertoire of the choir, and include performances of music by Paul-Antoni Bonetti, Stephen Leek, Graeme Morton, Alexander Negerevich, Matthew Orlovich, John Nickson, Peter Rankine, Paul Stanhope and Joseph Twist. We are also committed to supporting local and national composers by commissioning them to compose works for our ensemble. These works have included a mass setting – Missa Alchera - by Ross Edwards, The Old Prison by Joseph Twist and Requiem by Paul-Antoni Bonetti.
